This spring, our 9th & 10th graders will be embarking on a Service-Learning Project extravaganza! They will be writing online books for students in Kindergarten thru 4th grade. Then they will be helping the lower grade students to write their own online books. Our 9th & 10th graders will also be developing online games to help Kindergarten thru 4th grade students to be empowered in their abilities with language arts and reading. There will also be some reading and cookie eating involved!
To start our adventure, we'll be researching project and problem based learning. Students will have the opportunity to develop their own approach to how they start looking at any project. They will be developing skills to enable them to be successful life-long learners. Our students will also be learning about both qualitative and quantitative research and collecting data. Throughout this project, students will be using technology to write online books, help inspire Kindergarten thru 4th grade students as they write online books together, creatively design online games, and then play those games with the lower grade students. This will all culminate in a "Milk and Cookies" party with the 9th and 10th graders, Kindergarten thru 4th grade students, and their parents. After this part of the project is complete, 9th and 10th grade students will be able to take their new skills and work with kids at our local public library.
